About Us

We are a non-profit organization founded by a group of talented African artists who share a common goal: to educate, inspire, and empower fellow Africans in the arts. Our team comprises a diverse range of creative individuals, including a film writer, a choreographer, and a painter/visual artist. As immigrants who have found a new home in New York, we understand the unique challenges and opportunities that come with pursuing our artistic passions in a new cultural landscape.

Each member of our team brings their own expertise and experience, with impressive resumes that have garnered recognition in their respective fields. But beyond our individual accomplishments, we are united by a shared vision—to inspire a generation of artists and storytellers who will shape and reflect the world through their craft.

Our team comprises a diverse range of creative individuals, including a film writer, a choreographer, and a painter/visual artist. As immigrants who have found a new home in New York, we understand the unique challenges and opportunities that come with pursuing our artistic passions in a new cultural landscape.

One of our primary objectives is to provide educational resources and workshops that equip aspiring artists with the necessary tools and knowledge to thrive in the arts industry. We understand that access to quality education and mentorship can be limited for many African artists, particularly those who have recently arrived in a new country. Therefore, we strive to bridge this gap by offering workshops on screenwriting, dance, visual arts, and more.

In addition to our educational initiatives, we also organize exhibitions, performances, and film screenings to promote African art and culture within the wider community. These events provide a platform for artists to showcase their work and engage with audiences, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation for African creativity and storytelling.

Furthermore, we actively collaborate with other organizations and institutions to amplify our impact. By forging partnerships with local schools, community centers, and cultural institutions, we aim to create a network of support and opportunities for African artists to thrive.

Our Story

Since our establishment, the African Arts Project has organized numerous film screenings, showcasing thought-provoking and captivating works by African filmmakers. Our dedication to promoting African voices in the film industry has been acknowledged, as we have been honored with nominations at prestigious film festivals such as the OUT Film Festival in Los Angeles.

Through our events and initiatives, we strive to create a nurturing environment that empowers emerging artists, providing them with the tools, resources, and mentorship necessary to thrive in the arts industry. We believe that by fostering a supportive community and encouraging collaboration, we can create a lasting impact on the artistic landscape, both within our local community and beyond.
